About Ryoma Echizen

Voiced by: Minagawa Junko

Ryoma Echizen (越前 リョーマ, Echizen Ryooma) is a first year student at Seishun Academy ('Seigaku' for short), which he attends immediately after his arrival in Japan after formerly residing in the United States. Although only a first year in middle school, Ryoma had already earned notoriety through winning four consecutive titles in the American Junior Tennis tournaments; all in a little over a year. Due to his nearly invincible tennis play, Ryoma has earned the label 'prodigy' by the age of twelve. His looks and confidence make him highly popular with ladies, although he seems not to notice, having his focus exclusively on tennis.

He is an all-court tennis player with many special shots and abilities. One of Ryoma's greatest talents is his ability to learn new techniques after only seeing them performed a few times. He also has an amazing amount of stamina and does not sweat as much as the other players. Along with fellow Seigaku regular Eiji Kikumaru, Ryoma is known to have an exceptional talent for seeing moving objects. He does not go easy on himself and pushes himself more, rather than letting himself rest.

Although he is left-handed, his famous Twist Serve is only effective when delivered from the dominant hand of his opponents (i.e. he uses his right hand when serving against right-handed players). He occasionally plays tennis with his right hand as either a handicap for weaker opponents or a way to test his opponent's abilities. When the need for returning at a difficult angle or distance arises, Ryoma also incorporates the use of "nitouryuu", or ambidexterity.

His catchphrase in the Japanese anime is "mada mada dane," literally meaning "no, not yet" or "not good enough."

His favorite subject is Science, but having been brought up in the United States, Ryoma is fluent in English, which his classmates admire him for. He is also the object of admiration of his own fan club in school, which is led by Tomoka Osakada.

In the Prince of Tennis movie Futari no Samurai, Ryoma supposedly has an older brother named Ryoga Echizen, but the latter is later revealed to simply be a child that Nanjiro took in a few years ago.

Ryoma can be quite cocky and arrogant at times, but is always able to back up his statements with his tennis skills. He is usually distrustful of other tennis players, and Ryoma often provokes his opponent before a match. In the beginning of the series, Ryoma is not taken seriously by the other students at his school, especially at the Seigaku Tennis Club. It is only after he beats two of Seigaku's regulars (Kaoru Kaido and Sadaharu Inui) that he gains respect from fellow club members.

Ryoma is quiet and serious by nature, yet he can be very childish at times. He is also unafraid almost to the point of recklessness, but rarely gets angry or out of control.

About Ryoga Echizen

Ryoga Echizen (越前 リョーガ, Echizen Ryooga) is the antagonist turned protagonist in the Tenns no oujisama movie. Ryoga is the adopted son of Nanjiro Echizen, a former professional tennis player.
He bears a strong resemblance to Ryoma with his hazel eyes and black-green hair. While the Echizen family were in America, Ryoga was taken in by Nanjiro and lived with them for a time.
His tennis technique is modeled on that of Nanjiro. When he left the Echizen's home, he just wandered around until the evil billionaire Sakurafubuki Hikomaro hired him. In the flashbacks, it showed that he was rather close to Ryoma. At first he said that Ryoma's tennis was awful (which was true when he was about five or so).
It was shown that Ryoga's skills were far superior, but as Ryoma continued to improve, Ryoga began spending more time with him.
It is unknown why he ran away, possibly that he was just bored with home.

About the 2 brothers

No one know what were the motivation that make Ryoga left the Echizen's home in the USA but we can see how sweet were the relation between the 2 brothers.
We are all accustom to see an alone Ryoma that have no idea what is the brotherly love and this movie change our point of view even if for a single time.
We see a child Ryoma that smile when him brother prize him and in the present we see a Ryoma frustrated for the sudden apparition of Ryoga and he can't explain himself the motivation cause he left the USA house a appear only just now.
Even if Ryoga provoke Ryoma a bit we can see how much he love him little brother and this love came out expecially when both them safe the Seishun's boys from Sakurafubuk and co. during their match.
The brotherly relation between them is particular and give to who watch them in the movie a flavour similar to the marmelade's one: sweet and bitter at the same time. Two no-blood brothers with a strong relation and a grand dream to find and follow..

What is a fanlist?

A fanlisting is, quite simply, a listing of fans. Fanlistings are similar to any other group or club you might join. You can join a fanlisting to 'show your love of something.' Most fanlistings have small codes, buttons, or plaques available which you can display on your own website if you'd like. Our site definition of a fanlisting is: "A fanlisting is simply an online list of fans of a subject, such as a TV show, actor, or musician, that is created by an individual and open for fans from around the world to join. There are no costs, and the only requirements to join a fanlisting are your name and country. Fanlistings do not have to be large sites (although some are); they are just a place where you can sign up with other fans. TheFanlistings.org is the original (but not official) web directory for fanlistings, dedicated to uniting the fans." [From thefanlistings.org]
